Crawford is 0-5 against Christian since April of 2023 but things could change on Thursday. The Colts will square off against the Patriots at 5:30 p.m.
Last Tuesday, Crawford came up short against San Ysidro and fell 3-1.
The 3-1 doesn't really show just how close this match was: all the sets Crawford lost were decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 26-24.
Despite the defeat, Crawford saw an underclassman step up: freshman John Brown had 11 digs and one assist.
Meanwhile, Christian entered their tilt with Point Loma on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Pointers 3-0.
While Christian won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The final score came out to 25-20, 25-22, 25-19.
Crawford better keep an eye on McKade Mathson. He was instrumental in Christian's win, getting 16 digs and two aces.
Christian pushed their record up to 16-11 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Crawford, their loss dropped their record down to 14-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Crawford hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 5.2 blocks per game. It's a different story for Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 2 blocks. Given Crawford's sizable advantage in that area, the Patriots will need to find a way to close that gap.
Crawford might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Christian when the teams last played back in March. Can the Colts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
