Heritage hadn't done well against West Shore recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Wildcats. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Heritage had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 14-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-7.
Heritage got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Eva Vuichard out in front who had 13 digs, seven kills, and five aces. That's the most digs Vuichard has posted over her last ten matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Davis, who had 17 kills, 13 digs, and two aces.
They weren't the only good servers: Heritage was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 22 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in six consecutive matchups.
When it comes to explaining why West Shore lost, don't look at Ryleigh Donohue. Despite the final result, she had six digs and six aces. Sela Horgan also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Heritage's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for West Shore, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
Heritage wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Merritt Island Christian on the 9th. As for West Shore, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against Rockledge on the 9th.
