After a string of three wins, the American History Bald Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 56-16 loss at the hands of Somerville. American History was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-6.
American History's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Erica Lawson, who scored three points along with five steals. Lawson is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ashiyah Holliman, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
American History's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5. As for Somerville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. American History will take on the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Pioneer Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Somerville, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. Bound Brook will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Pioneers are ranked 33rd).
