The Laurens Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Greenwood at home and fell 52-24. While losing is never fun, Laurens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Greenwood is ranked fifth).
Laurens' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nyri Allen, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds. Faith Jackson was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
Leading Greenwood to victory were Danielle Oliver and Ty Johnson. Oliver scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals, while Johnson dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Oliver, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Laurens bumped their record down to 7-9 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Greenwood, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 16-0.
Laurens will be playing in front of their home fans against Wade Hampton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wade Hampton has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 253 points over their last four games. As for Greenwood, they will head out on the road to take on Pickens at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Pickens focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday.
