The Raceland Rams lost against the Russell Red Devils back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Raceland ended up on the wrong side of a rough 79-53 walloping at the hands of Russell. While losing is never fun, Raceland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Russell is ranked 17th).
Leading Russell to victory were Shaelyn Steele and Kennedy Darnell. Steele dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds, while Darnell shot 5-for-10 from deep and dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Darnell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Gabby Oborne, who scored 11 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Raceland and nudges their season record down to 11-13. As for Russell, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 20-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Raceland will take on Paintsville at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Paintsville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Raceland likes a good challenge. As for Russell, they will be playing at home against Blazer at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Russell is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
