Even though the Frontier Cougars have not done well against the St. Marys Blue Devils recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Frontier walked away with a 56-49 win over St. Marys. The win was all the more spectacular given Frontier's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 258th in Ohio, while St. Marys is ranked 11th in West Virginia).
Leading Frontier to victory were Morgan Haught and Grace Knowlton. Haught scored 15 points along with nine rebounds, while Knowlton scored 29 points. Those 29 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Bowersock, who scored two points along with nine rebounds.
St. Marys lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Addie "r" Davis, who scored 22 points. The matchup was Davis' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Breanna Price was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Frontier is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for St. Marys, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 6-2.
Frontier will finish 2023 at home by hosting Southern at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Southern will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. St. Marys will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Fort Frye at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Fort Frye will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
