2A Region 4 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Decatur was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 2A Region 4. The Bulldogs beat Western Yell County 52-14 earlier in the week.
Hackett extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Mountainburg, 35-20. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Hornets.
Joel Murdock was the best wideout in the league this week as Union Christian Academy fell to Hector. Murdock tallied 10 receptions for 77 yards. Will Callaway helped Union Christian Academy's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 64 yards.
Nathan Jones put up the best numbers through the air as the Dragons lost to Hackett. He finished with 18 completions for 195 yards and one touchdown. Jones' favorite target this week was Robert Nolen, who caught four passes for 57 yards.
Gus Nichols was the most productive running back in 2A Region 4 this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 202 yards as the Wildcats lost to the Wildcats. Teammate Kyle Fillion added to the ground attack by rushing for 39 yards.
Tynr Johnson made the biggest impact on defense this week as Mountainburg fell to Eddie Ray's team. The 6-foot-3 senior grabbed one interception and recorded one fumble.
Tom Harrell's team's Jones and Johnson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Jones has thrown for 1433 yards this season, while Johnson, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 29 catches for 429 yards. Hector's Nichols leads the league in rushing yards with 804.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when West Side takes on Leftwich. At the moment, the Rebels are in fifth, while the Rattlers are in third.
Leftwich took down Hartford 54-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
