TAPPS Division I District 1 recap September 17, 2013
Bishop Dunne scaled the state rankings by moving to 386 from 527 this week, the biggest jump in TAPPS Division I District 1. The Falcons climbed the ranks as a result of besting Lincoln 42-41.
Bishop Dunne and the Tigers played the most contested game in the league this week, with Bishop Dunne eventually emerging with a 42-41 victory.
Prestonwood Christian's dynamic duo of Twayne Blackwell and Jonathan Heasley proved to be unstoppable against Royse City, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Blackwell threw for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns and Heasley had 119 yards receiving. Michael Irvin helped Prestonwood Christian's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 99 yards.
The Lions' dynamic duo of Blackwell and Heasley proved tough for the Bulldogs to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Luke Alves was the best running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 132 yards as Nolan Catholic beat Royse City. Teammate Spencer Hutka added to the ground attack by rushing for 101 yards.
Heasley was the best wideout in TAPPS Division I District 1 this week as Chris Cunningham's team topped David Petroff's team.
Christian Hutzler provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Trinity Christian bested Crockett. He completed 20 passes for 323 yards and 2 touchdowns and also ran for 17 yards. Hutzler's favorite target this week was Parker Oliver, who caught 4 passes for 97 yards.
He went 20-28 with 0 interceptions.
Blackwell put up the best numbers through the air as the Lions topped the Bulldogs.
On the heels of Hutzler and Nahshon Ellerbe, the Trojans have had great success on offense. Hutzler leads the league in passing with 1,099 yards, while Ellerbe has rushed for 327 yards this season. Prestonwood Christian's Irvin leads the league in receiving yards with 345 on 22 catches.
Trinity Christian took down the Bulldogs 55-28 last week, the largest margin of any game. Hutzler during the win.
