Fryeburg is a perfect 4-0 against St. Dominic since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Raiders will welcome the Saints at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On May 5th, Fryeburg earned an 8-5 victory over Oxford Hills. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.
Presli Knapp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits.
At the plate, Fryeburg got a big performance out of Reagan Wilson, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Carlin Galligan, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, St. Dominic waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with a 12-3 win. The game was the first time the Saints have beaten the Panthers on their field since June 12, 2021.
St. Dominic also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Madeline Andrews gave up three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. Andrews has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Piper Croteau was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Sophia Franciose was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
St. Dominic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
St. Dominic pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fryeburg, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both Fryeburg and St. Dominic just can't seem to miss. The Raiders have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11 hits per game. However, it's not like St. Dominic struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fryeburg took their victory against St. Dominic when the teams last played back in May of 2021 by a conclusive 13-2 score. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Saints turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
