The Burgin Bulldogs will face off against the Powell County Pirates at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Burgin took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Danville Christian Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Warriors 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since May 11, 2024.

Jocelyn Stanley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Ashton Lester was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, Powell County got themselves on the board against Owsley County on Thursday, but Owsley County never followed suit. They blew past the Owls / Lady Owls 15-0. Considering the Pirates have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kylie Shick made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Shick was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Kincaid, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Brooklyn Slone also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Powell County and bumps their season record up to 8-11. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Burgin, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.
