The Coral Springs Colts will take on the Pompano Beach Golden Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Coral Springs and six for Pompano Beach.
Things were looking good for Coral Springs after they put the first points on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Florida Christian by a score of 5-4.
Angelo Painter was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, Ryan Guthrie was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Coral Springs is 2-1 when Guthrie posts three or more hits, but 7-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Natron Wheeler, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Pompano Beach came up short against South Broward on Wednesday, falling 12-6.
Pompano Beach saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jonathon Caianiello, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another was Parker Skeen, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Pompano Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Coral Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Coral Springs has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pompano Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Coral Springs took their win against Pompano Beach in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Golden Tornadoes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
