Seminole Ridge is 0-9-1 against Wellington since March of 2017 but things could change on Wednesday. The Seminole Ridge Hawks will host the Wellington Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. Seminole Ridge will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Last Thursday, Seminole Ridge didn't have quite enough to beat Westminster Academy and fell 8-7. That's two games in a row now that the Hawks have lost by just one run.
Chloe Coffie made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Watczak, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Coffie wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Seminole Ridge lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Wellington got the win against Palm Beach Central on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-2. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by nine runs or more this season.
Tori Payne was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.
In other batting news, Angelina Baronci and Brianna Casey did most of the damage at the plate: Baronci scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Casey scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Erryn Lowe, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
The victory made it two in a row for Wellington and bumps their season record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Seminole Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Seminole Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Wellington struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Seminole Ridge came up short against Wellington in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Can Seminole Ridge avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
