The Mountainside Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Highland Prep Honey Badgers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Mountainside and three for Highland Prep.
Mountainside fell victim to Phoenix Christian's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 37-0 defeat at the hands of the Cougars.
Meanwhile, Highland Prep took a serious blow against Camp Verde on Friday, falling 68-24.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Isaiah Gomez, who picked up 170 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Gomez was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 65 yards. Gil Camacho was another key contributor, throwing for 264 yards and four touchdowns.
Mountainside's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 Tombstone and 7-2 Camp Verde (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 73.3% over those games). As for Highland Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Mountainside was taken down by Highland Prep 46-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Mountainside avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
