The Nelson will head out on the road to face off against the Gresham Gophers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Nelson will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Nelson gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They enjoyed a cozy 28-13 win over Sandy.
Meanwhile, Gresham's eight-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 42-0 win over David Douglas. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Gresham's 12-point performance the contest before.
Liam Arnold was a one-man wrecking crew for Gresham as he threw for 184 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground. Gresham also got help from Tucker Snow who showed off his sure hands for 81 receiving yards.
Nelson's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-7 David Douglas and 3-5 Barlow (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Gresham, their win bumped their record up to 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Nelson against Gresham when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 40-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Nelson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
