Whitley County hasn't had much luck against South Laurel recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Colonels are taking a road trip to take on the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Whitley County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Whitley County made easy work of Barbourville and carried off a 15-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Colonels in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won eight in a row.

Caylee Singleton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Whitley County got a massive performance out of Jayden Barton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Barton has posted since back in March of 2024. Hallie Huddleston was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two triples, three RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, South Laurel entered their tilt with Pulaski County on Monday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Maroons a 2-0 shutout. The two-run effort marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Not much got past Kenzie Williams, who gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks to keep Pulaski County off the board.
At the plate, South Laurel saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Baker, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
South Laurel pushed their record up to 19-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Whitley County, their record now sits at 15-18.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Whitley County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like South Laurel struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Whitley County suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to South Laurel when the teams last played last Monday. Can the Colonels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
