Academy Top 10 presented by the Army National Guard1. (4) Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), 10-0Yes, this is a significant jump for the Warriors and a major departure from our preseason outlook. But Oak Hill has earned it with quality wins over Princeton Day (Lanham, Md.), Word of God Christian Academy (Raleigh, N.C.), Quality Education Academy (Winston-Salem, N.C.), High Point Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.) and Southwind (Memphis, Tenn.). The score comparison game is a tricky one, but OHA dominated Quality Education by 26 back on Nov. 9. Two weeks later, Huntington Prep beat the same team by 10. The storied Virginia program has won 54 in a row overall.
2. (1) Huntington Prep (W.Va.), 7-0Top 2013 prospect Andrew Wiggins and the Express were impressive over the weekend at the Marshall County Hoopfest, beating Memphis East (Tenn.) 76-59 and Briarcrest Christian (Eads, Tenn.) 74-40. Huntington Prep is winning by an average margin of 26.5 points per game so far this season. Adding a little fuel to the Oak Hill-Huntington Prep No. 1 debate was Express guard
Xavier Rathan-Mayes, who posted this via Twitter on Saturday: "Just want to know when Oak Hill gone (sic) play us."
3. (2) Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.), 11-0The Pilots averaged 113 points per game in a pair of weekend wins in British Columbia. Findlay Prep's first big test may not come until it heads to Hawai'i for the 'Iolani Classic later this month.
4. (3) Montverde Academy (Fla.), 2-0After two easy wins to begin the season, the Eagles should get a good push from Dr. Phillips (Orlando) on Tuesday.
5. (5) St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.), 3-0The Gray Bees have scored 100 points or more in all three outings so far, including a 105-49 victory over CNC Academy of Staten Island on Friday night.
6. (6) Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.), 2-0Senior big man
Mark Williams averaged 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in Montrose Christian's first two games, comfortable wins over Grace Brethren Christian (Brethren, Md.) and Hayfield (Alexandria, Va.).
7. (8) La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.), 6-0The aforementioned 'Iolani Classic is shaping up as an Academy Top 10 extravaganza with La Lumiere joining Findlay Prep, Oak Hill Academy and Montrose Christian in the field.
8. (9) Christ School (Arden, N.C.), 7-0Junior point guard
Eric Johnson Jr. entered high school as a highly touted prospect and has finally emerged as a major threat for the Greenies, averaging 14.7 points per game. Alabama-bound senior forward
Shannon Hale is leading Christ School with 16 points per game.
9. (10) Sunrise Christian Academy (Bel Aire, Kan.), 8-0With the Fantasy of Lights title already in hand, the Buffaloes will look to add two more tournament titles to their resume in December at the Route 66 Shootout in Missouri and Gulfshore Invitational in Florida.
10. (NR) National Christian Academy (Fort Washington, Md.), 3-0Watch out for NCA, which has some serious talent with standouts like
Jonathan Davis,
D'Neiko Norfleet and 6-10 sophomore
Sylvester Ogbonda and a seemingly manageable schedule.
