Sandia took down Manzano 34-19 last week, the largest margin of any game.
The Matadors made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,701 from 2,243. The advance stemmed from a 34-19 victory over the Monarchs last week.
5-foot-9 quarterback Angel Gonzales of Manzano is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1381. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. On the ground, La Cueva's Michael Rose has rushed for 977 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Chris Thompson. The La Cueva star has 40 catches for 707 yards.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Eldorado and Sandia. The Eagles enters the game ranked 19th in the state, while Kevin Barker's team ranks eighth.
The Bears' Rose needs only 23 yards against Chad Adcox's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
There should be lots of points scored when La Cueva and the Monarchs face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, terry cooper's team comes in having scored 279 this season, while Manzano has scored 267. The Bears scored 35 points last week as they defeated Eldorado.
La Cueva led the league in scoring this week after putting up 35 points on Charlie Dotson's team. Rose ran for 280 yards and caught three passes for 29 yards in the win.
