Prospect is 0-3 against York since May of 2016 but things could change on Saturday. The Knights will host the Dukes at 10:00 a.m. Prospect is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Prospect made easy work of DePaul College Prep and carried off a 10-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Knights.
Lucas Nelson looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Louie Caldrone was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was John Bazula, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Prospect kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as DePaul College Prep only managed six hits.
Meanwhile, York fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Downers Grove North on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 10-8. The Dukes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Danny Raible was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, Josh Fleming and Austin Grzywa stepped up to the plate in a big way. Fleming got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Grzywa went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Luke Pieczynski was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Prospect pushed their record up to 21-10-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for York, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-11.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Prospect hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like York struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Prospect suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to York when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
