Lincoln is 2-8 against the Crusaders since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lincoln Trojans will be playing at home against the Modesto Christian Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Lincoln sitting on seven straight wins and the Crusaders on six.
Lincoln can now show off 12 landslide victories after their most recent game on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 88-26 victory over Tokay at home. Lincoln's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Lincoln's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Quentin Thompson led the charge by scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Donez Lindsey, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, even though Lynwood scored an imposing 78 points on Saturday, Modesto Christian still came out on top. Modesto Christian took their matchup against the Knights 88-78. Given Modesto Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Knights are ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Modesto Christian can attribute much of their success to Marcus Washington, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Gavin Sykes, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Washington has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles Jones, who scored 15 points.
Lincoln pushed their record up to 20-4 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Modesto Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Lincoln have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 47.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Modesto Christian struggles in that department as they've made 46.2% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Lincoln ended up a good deal behind the Crusaders in their previous matchup back in January, losing 68-53. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sykes, who scored 27 points along with two steals. Now that Lincoln knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
