The Coronado Cougars will face off against the Palo Verde Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Coronado will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Coronado's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Rancho. Considering the Cougars have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Alohi Mundon was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Bendlin, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Coronado lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Palo Verde strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over Centennial.
Haley Kearnes made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makayla Enriquez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs. Alexis Kearnes was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Palo Verde pushed their record up to 16-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Coronado, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Coronado hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Palo Verde struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
