Mt. Zion is a perfect 5-0 against Cumberland since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Braves will host the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Mt. Zion turned things around against Rochester on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Rockets 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Braves have posted since May 17, 2024.
Ella Fink spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chloe Williams, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Molly Doolin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cumberland entered their tilt with Heritage on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Hawks. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.
Cumberland got a massive performance out of Baya Carter, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two hits gave Carter a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Millsap, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Cumberland hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive contests.
Cumberland's win bumped their record up to 6-9. As for Mt. Zion, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.
Everything went Mt. Zion's way against Cumberland in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Mt. Zion made off with a 9-2 win. Do the Braves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
