Basketball Recap: Lakeland Falls Despite Big Games from Zoey Bowman and Dulce Canedo

Lakeland lost against Garrett back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Lakeland Lakers lost to the Garrett Railroaders on the road by a 64-45 margin. That's two games in a row now that the Lakers have lost by exactly 19 points.

Lakeland's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Dulce Canedo, who posted 17 points, and Zoey Bowman, who earned nine points and six boards. Bowman has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cara Schackow, who scored three points and four blocks.

Lakeland has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Garrett, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-18.

Both are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Lakeland has already played their next contest (against Central Noble), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Garrett will square off against DeKalb at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Garrett is facing DeKalb at the right time seeing as DeKalb is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
