After a string of six wins, the Calvary Day School Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Caldwell Academy by a score of 57-55. While losing is never fun, Calvary Day School can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Caldwell Academy is ranked 33rd).
Dane Cassada and Owen Calvert certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Cassada scored 17 points along with six assists, while Calvert scored 18 points. The match was Cassada's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Asher Tolbert was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Calvary Day School struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Calvary Day School's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Caldwell Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
Calvary Day School will head out on the road to face off against Burlington Christian Academy at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Burlington Christian Academy will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Caldwell Academy will take on Wesleyan Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
