Baseball Game Preview: Fort Collins Lambkins vs. Fossil Ridge SaberCats

For the first time this season, Fort Collins will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will challenge the Fossil Ridge SaberCats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Collins has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Fort Collins lost 12-2 to Grandview on Saturday. The Lambkins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Dylan Rubenstein was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Baete, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fossil Ridge). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 victory over Legacy on Saturday. The win was familiar territory for the SaberCats, who have now won three contests in a row.

Owen Morgan was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Matt Lang was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Fossil Ridge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Legacy only posted an OBP of .410.

Fossil Ridge pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Collins, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Fort Collins couldn't quite get it done against Fossil Ridge when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can Fort Collins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
