The Grapevine Mustangs pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 65-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lake Dallas. While losing is never fun, Grapevine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 517th, while Lake Dallas is ranked 210th).
Despite the defeat, Grapevine had strong showings from Aaron Sowell, who scored 23 points, and David Coe, who scored 22 points along with six assists and three steals. That was a full 39.3% of Grapevine's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Matthew E woodcock was another key contributor, scoring five points along with ten rebounds.
Grapevine has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-19 record this season. As for Lake Dallas, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grapevine on the road again on Tuesday and play against Denton at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Denton is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. As for Lake Dallas, they will head out on the road to challenge Colleyville Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Colleyville Heritage focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
