De Beque and Meeker are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The De Beque Dragons will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Meeker Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Thursday, De Beque made easy work of Vail Christian and carried off a 57-35 win. The Dragons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 20 points or more this season.
Burke Largent and Jace Graham were among the main playmakers for De Beque as the former almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double with 23 points and 24 boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Largent has scored at least a third of De Beque's points. Another player making a difference was Trenton Sandidge, who posted nine points.
Meanwhile, Meeker fought the good fight in their overtime contest against North Fork on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Miners 59-55.
Defeat or not, Meeker got some senior leadership from Drew Drake and Tyler Sanders. Drake on his way to 14 points and five rebounds, while Sanders scored 13 points and three steals. Said Rodriguez was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.
Even though they lost, Meeker smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.
De Beque is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points over those games. Meeker's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-15.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: De Beque has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Meeker struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
De Beque lost to Meeker at home by a decisive 44-29 margin when the teams last played back in February of 2022. Can De Beque avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
