The South Eugene Axe will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Roseburg Indians at 6:45 p.m. on January 26th. South Eugene knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 games -- so hopefully Roseburg likes a good challenge.
Even though Sheldon scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, South Eugene still came out on top. South Eugene walked away with a 64-57 win over Sheldon.
South Eugene's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Landyn Bryant led the charge by scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Levi Hawes, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Roseburg entered their tilt with Grants Pass with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Roseburg came out on top against Grants Pass by a score of 74-64 on Tuesday. Given Roseburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Grants Pass is ranked 98th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Eugene's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.8 points per game. As for Roseburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
South Eugene ended up a good deal behind Roseburg when the teams last played back in February of 2023, losing 88-71. Can South Eugene avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
