Newport Central Catholic extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 6 this week by beating Gallatin County, 49-13. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Newport Central Catholic took down the Wildcats 49-13 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Holy Cross's Mitch Trail and Burt Pouncy have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Trail has thrown for 787 yards this season, while Pouncy, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 25 catches for 466 yards. Jacob Elbert from Bishop Brossart leads the league in rushing with 1093 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Indians take on Eddie Eviston 's team. Holy Cross' offense has recorded 285 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Thoroughbreds have permitted only 190 on the year.
A big matchup in 2A District 6 this week will be when Newport Central Catholic takes on Bruce Kozerski's team. The Thoroughbreds are currently in second, while the Indians are in third.
Newport Central Catholic led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Gallatin County.
