Durham Academy let Whitney Wiles and Claire Lynch run wild. Wiles scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Lynch scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Lynch is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Lillian Dardani was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.
Durham Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Carrboro challenged East Chapel Hill on Wednesday. The Jaguars lost 14-3 to the Wildcats. The Jaguars haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Teagan Fichter put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and 12 unearned) runs off four hits. Fichter was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Fichter wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Julia DeVries, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Durham Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Carrboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Durham Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .578. However, it's not like Carrboro struggles in that department as they've averaged .456. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Durham Academy suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Carrboro when the teams last played back in March of 2017. Can the Cavaliers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
