Basketball Recap: South Bend Riley Takes a Loss

South Bend Riley lost against South Bend Washington back in November of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The South Bend Riley Wildcats took a blow against the South Bend Washington Panthers, falling 64-31. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while the Panthers are ranked tenth).

When it comes to explaining why South Bend Riley lost, don't look at Emma Norton. Despite the final result, she posted 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Norton is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games.

Even though they lost, South Bend Riley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for Kira Reynolds, who dropped a triple-double on 17 points, 15 rebounds, and ten blocks for South Bend Washington. Reynolds is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted four or more in the last 17 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makyla McNeal, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 13 points.

South Bend Riley has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for South Bend Washington, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

South Bend Riley and LaVille will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. LaVille knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully South Bend Riley likes a good challenge. As for South Bend Washington, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-48 win against Wayne Memorial on the 14th.
