Baseball Recap: St. Francis Sets Scoring Season-High Against St. Anthony

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Francis). Everything went their way against the St. Anthony Roman Legion on Thursday as they made off with a 16-1 win. The Mariners haven't had any issues with the Roman Legion recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Noah Heitman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Perry, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Kingston Liddell was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

St. Francis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

St. Francis pushed their record up to 11-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for St. Anthony, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, St. Francis will be playing in front of their home fans against Milwaukee Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Red Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.57 runs per game on average), something the Mariners will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for St. Anthony, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Faith Christian at 5:00 p.m. on the 22nd.
