III Section III recap November 19, 2013
Weston Barlow of Queen Creek ran for the longest rushing play in III Section III this season against Peoria last week. Barlow ran for 86 yards on the play and finished with 326 on the day as his team topped the Panthers.
Saguaro extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sabino, 48-20. The win marks 11th in a row for the the Sabercats.
Barlow was a force in the backfield as Queen Creek topped Peoria.
Luke Rubenzer threw for 332 yards and 5 touchdowns. He went 17-24 with 0 interceptions.
Rubenzer put up the best numbers in passing as Saguaro defeated the Sabercats. Rubenzer's favorite target this week was J.T. Nettleton, who caught 4 passes for 137 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Jason Mohns' team's Rubenzer and Nettleton have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-0 quarterback Rubenzer has thrown for 3,397 yards this season, while Nettleton has 47 catches for 1,260 yards. Barlow from Joe Germaine's team leads the league in rushing with 1,870 yards.
The marquee game in III Section III this week will be the clash between Williams Field and the Bulldogs. The Black Hawks comes into the matchup ranked eighth in the state, while Queen Creek ranks 14th.
In 133 carries Dominic Orona has accumulated 962 yard this year.
Williams Field's Cole Forsgren is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 50 receiving yards against the Bulldogs to hit that benchmark. So far this year, he has garnered 40 catches for 950 yards.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Steve Campbell's team takes on Queen Creek. The Black Hawks have allowed 193 points this season, while the Bulldogs have given up 225. Williams Field allowed 26 points last week as it beat Canyon del Oro.
The Black Hawks and the Dorados played the closest game in the league this week, with the Black Hawks eventually emerging with a 29-26 victory. Blake Ruiz during the win.
