Make it four blowout wins for the Salida Spartans this season. They put the hurt on Florence with a sharp 65-45 victory on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Salida has posted against Florence since January 30, 2018.
Salida was led to victory by Kason Westphal and Ryan Osness. Westphal scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Osness scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and seven steals. That's the first time this season that Osness pulled down eight or more rebounds. Daniel Edgington was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Loss or not, Florence got some senior leadership from Gage Goodall who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds and Gunnar Phillips who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Goodall has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Royer, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Salida's win was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 31.29 points. As for Florence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.
Salida will head out on the road to face off against Rye at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rye is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.9 points per game. As for Florence, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against The Vanguard School at 7:00 p.m. Averaging 79.8 so far this season, The Vanguard School's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Florence better be ready for a challenge.
