Canyon Hills is 1-7 against Clairemont since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Rattlers are taking a road trip to face off against the Chieftains at 4:00 p.m. Canyon Hills will be strutting in after a victory while Clairemont will be coming in after a defeat.
Canyon Hills came out on top against Madison on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Rattlers never let the Warhawks get on the board and left with a 9-0 win.
Avery Maddox and Hal'E Martin did most of the damage at the plate: Maddox went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Martin got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two doubles gave Maddox a new career-high. Addie Shea also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Canyon Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Madison only posted an OBP of .062.
Meanwhile, Clairemont suffered their biggest loss since May 10, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 12-4 to Mira Mesa. The Chieftains have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Camryn Walton and Lucy Brickner stepped up to the plate in a big way. Walton went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Brickner went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Maelea Silao, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Canyon Hills has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Clairemont, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.
Clairemont's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Canyon Hills has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Clairemont, though, as they've been averaging only 2.6 strikeouts. Will Canyon Hills keep running through batters, or will the Chieftains buck the trend?
Canyon Hills couldn't quite finish off Clairemont in their previous matchup back in April and fell 8-6. Can the Rattlers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
