The Snow Canyon Warriors will face off against the Dixie Flyers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Snow Canyon comes in on three and Dixie on ten.
Snow Canyon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over Bear River.
Andrew Lyon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Lyon was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Snow Canyon let Trey Vaughn and Dewy Gibb run wild. Vaughn got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Gibb got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That's the most RBI Vaughn has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Cael Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Dixie faced Ridgeline in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Flyers were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Riverhawks. The result was nothing new for the Flyers, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Weston Gilmore and Colton Hill did most of the damage at the plate: Gilmore got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, while Hill went 4-for-5 with two RBI and one double. Gilmore has become a key player for Dixie: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Hudson Wright, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Dixie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in eight consecutive games.
Snow Canyon's win bumped their record up to 21-6. As for Dixie, their victory bumped their record up to 19-9.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Snow Canyon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .453. However, it's not like Dixie struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Snow Canyon suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Dixie in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
