Lake Weir is 2-8 against the Bulldogs since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Lake Weir Hurricanes will square off against the Umatilla Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Lake Weir focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.
Last Friday, Lake Weir sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 54-51 victory over the Patriots. The win made it back-to-back wins for Lake Weir.
Tra'shawn Warren was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 17 points. Amari Kiner was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Umatilla pushed their score all the way to 57 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to South Lake 62-57.
Despite the loss, Umatilla saw an underclassman step up: Herly Brutus almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine assists. Brutus is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jay Miller, who scored 15 points.
Lake Weir's win bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Umatilla, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-5.
Lake Weir came up short against the Bulldogs when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 66-57. Can Lake Weir avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
