The Palmerton Blue Bombers put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Jim Thorpe 37-7 at home. Considering Palmerton has won eight contests by more than 19 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Matthew Machalik, who rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Machalik has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last 11 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty Sander, who rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Palmerton's victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 11-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-8 Pine Grove and 2-8 Palisades (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 44.7% over those games). As for Jim Thorpe, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Palmerton will be playing at home against North Schuylkill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Pennsylvania (North Schuylkill is ranked 112th, while Palmerton is ranked 97th). Jim Thorpe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
