The Dunellen Destroyers won the last time they faced the South Amboy Governors, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Dunellen took down South Amboy 36-22. Given Dunellen's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while South Amboy is ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dunellen found their leader in underclassman Wendy Woll, who scored 20 points along with five steals and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Fabiana Ames Castillo, who scored six points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Dunellen's victory was their third straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. As for South Amboy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dunellen will face off against Timothy Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Timothy Christian is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games. South Amboy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Dunellen at 4:00 p.m. on January 22, 2024.
