Softball Recap: Layton Sets Scoring Season-High Against Weber

Layton had lost six games at home, but after bumping their record up to 2-14 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 14-10 win over the Weber Warriors. The Lancers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Lexie Himle made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Himle was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Serenity Overton was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Macie Clark was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Layton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.4.

As for Weber, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured eight losses in a row.

On Weber's side, Aliya Rhees stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jade Kulpa, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Layton will welcome Summit Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19 runs per game on average), something the Lancers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Weber, they will be taking part in a tournament against Skyridge at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
