The Weslaco East Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Lopez Lobos at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Weslaco East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Weslaco East will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Edcouch-Elsa on Tuesday. The Wildcats blew past the Yellowjackets 10-4. Considering the Wildcats have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Aubrey Zuniga was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Zuniga was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and five RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Sydni Morales was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Angelica Herrera was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Weslaco East lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edcouch-Elsa didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, Lopez had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Raiders.
Like Weslaco East, Lopez also got a great game from a two-way player: Jenny Shank. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Shank has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ferni Pulido, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Brizeyda Salinas, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Weslaco East has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Lopez, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7.
Weslaco East was able to grind out a solid win over Lopez in their previous matchup back in March, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
