Wabash has gone 7-1 against Elwood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Apaches will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 5:30 p.m.
Wabash came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 12-3 to Huntington North. The Apaches have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, Elwood came into Friday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Anderson Prep Academy on Friday. With that win, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
Dylan Grimes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Grimes was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other pitching news, Elwood got a great performance from Jackson Maggart as he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Maggart is becoming a predictor of the Panthers' success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't).
Back at the plate, Aidan Flanagan was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Jace Reese, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Elwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Anderson Prep Academy only posted an OBP of .393.
Elwood picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Wabash, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Everything went Wabash's way against Elwood in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Wabash made off with an 8-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Apaches since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
