Basketball Recap: Massaponax Drops Season-High Score on Lafayette

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Massaponax). They strolled past the Lafayette Rams with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 77-59. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Massaponax's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Myers, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 20 points and seven assists. The dominant performance gave Myers a new career-high in assists. Alonzo Bowler was another key player, going 7 of 9 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Myers wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Massaponax was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The win got Massaponax back to even at 5-5. As for Lafayette, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Massaponax will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on North Stafford at 7:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025. Lafayette also won't see the court for a while: their next matchup is against Grafton at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
