The Newton HomeSchool Panthers fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They snuck past Non Varsity Opponent with a 55-49 victory on Monday. That's another feather in the cap for Newton HomeSchool, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Jaquale Schumm was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 30 rebounds. Schumm is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alex Bungard, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Newton HomeSchool's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Non Varsity Opponent, they dropped their record down to 134-246-1 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Newton HomeSchool will take on the at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Non Varsity Opponent, they will head out on the road to square off against the Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. San Jon is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
