Softball Game Preview: Huntley Red Raiders vs. DeKalb Barbs

Huntley has gone 6-1 against DeKalb recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Red Raiders will take on the Barbs at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Huntley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Grant Community 4-2. The win was nothing new for the Red Raiders as they're now sitting on six straight.

Gretchen Huber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lana Hobday was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Grace Benson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, DeKalb won against Rockford Auburn on Wednesday with four runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Barbs beat Hononegah by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Barbs.

DeKalb pushed their record up to 18-15 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Huntley, their victory bumped their record up to 24-12.

Everything went Huntley's way against DeKalb in their previous meeting back in May of 2022, as Huntley made off with a 9-0 win. Do the Red Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Barbs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
