The Mapletown Maples's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell 77-66 to California. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (58), Mapletown still had to take the loss.
California got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Vincent Manzella out in front who scored 31 points along with five assists and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Manzella has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Neil, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds.
Mapletown has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for California, their win bumped their record up to 5-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mapletown will take on the Gators at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Geibel Catholic comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for California, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Rockets at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Jefferson-Morgan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
