Baseball Game Preview: Exeter Tigers vs. Lockwood Tigers

Exeter will square off against Lockwood at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Exeter barely beat Hurley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Exeter put the hurt on Hurley with a sharp 13-4 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for Exeter in their matchups with Hurley: they've now won six in a row.

Cason Antle made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Exeter is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 9-10 otherwise. Antle was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April.

In other batting news, Exeter got a big performance out of K Crowe, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs. Exeter is 5-1 when Crowe posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Briley Hargus, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lockwood). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Verona a 17-0 shutout on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Lockwood and bumps their season record up to 9-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Exeter, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Exeter skirted past Lockwood 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April. Does Exeter have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lockwood turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
