Pelahatchie hasn't had much luck against Puckett recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Chiefs will look to defend their home field against the Wolves at 12:00 p.m. Pelahatchie has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Pelahatchie is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Pisgah, falling 12-2.
Zoey Jones made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Puckett waltzed into their game on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Lions as they made off with an 8-2 victory. Considering the Wolves have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Lila Murphy made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Murphy wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rose Peden, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Peden also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Brooke Shivers was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Puckett pushed their record up to 13-6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pelahatchie, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pelahatchie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .421. However, it's not like Puckett struggles in that department as they've averaged .344. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pelahatchie suffered a grim 22-0 defeat to Puckett in their previous meeting on Wednesday. Can the Chiefs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
