Quincy is 2-8 against Rock Island since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Blue Devils will take on the Rocks at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Quincy turned things around against Granite City on Saturday. They came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 6-2.
Izzy Weppler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kendyl Byquist, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Mia Ellefritz, who went 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Quincy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Rock Island not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 22nd (when they won 18-3). They blew past Minooka 9-3.
AJ Lincoln was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylee James, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Quincy's record is now 12-15. As for Rock Island, their record now sits at 9-16.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Quincy hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Rock Island struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Quincy skirted past Rock Island 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
