The Dunnellon Tigers were the 58-39 winner over the Springstead Eagles when they last played one another back in November of 2014, but their luck changed this time around. Dunnellon's tough 70-50 loss to Springstead on Monday might stick with them for a while. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Dunnellon came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Springstead is ranked 258th).
Dunnellon's loss came despite strong showings from Tatiana Matthews and Tony'ah Boggs. Matthews scored 19 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals, while Boggs scored 11 points. Matthews scored a full 38% of Dunnellon's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Leading Springstead to victory were Samantha Suarez and Addy Osborne. Suarez scored 19 points along with 7 assists and 7 rebounds, while Osborne scored 28 points along with 6 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Suarez has scored at least 25% of Springstead's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Malanie Francis, who scored 12 points along with 8 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Dunnellon and nudges their season record down to 3-2. As for Springstead, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dunnellon will take on Chiefland at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Springstead, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Nature Coast Tech at 7:30 p.m. on December 6th. Hopefully Nature Coast Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday.
