The American Heritage Stallions have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to Westminster Academy on the road by a decisive 67-48 margin on Thursday. While losing is never fun, American Heritage can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Westminster Academy is ranked eighth).
When it comes to explaining why American Heritage lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brendan Gerard. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Zack Burrow, who scored nine points.
Alex Constanza continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Westminster Academy, shooting 5-for-7 from deep and almost dropping a triple-double on 29 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. That's the first time this season that Constanza posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Dwayne Wimbley jr., who scored 12 points along with six assists.
American Heritage has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-4 record this season. As for Westminster Academy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-4.
American Heritage on the road again on Tuesday and play against Jupiter at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Jupiter is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games. As for Westminster Academy, they will take on Richmond Heights at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
